Like many other well-known brands to its name the company Bentley Motors received by the founder of the family name — in this case, Walter Bentley. This talented engineer and a
real fan of racing desired to create this monster, which would not have been equal to the racetrack. It is now the Bentley name causes the majority of the association with the powerful, but very
massive and rather clumsy dreadnoughts. And here are the first company cars could only boast exceptional technical component. Bentley little worried about the luxury and design of the body, this
is not the most important part of the sports car he had put forward only one demand — that all were gathered tightly.
Officially, the company was founded in 1919. Immediately attracted the attention by presenting the exhibition in London model Bentley 3L. «3L» meant that the volume of four-cylinder engine of
this miracle is 3 liters. Available car appeared in 1921. We can not say that he enjoyed so popular because between him and ordinary motorist was too high, although justifiable cost. Bentley

It was not until 1930, when its rights entered the Great Depression. The situation is aggravated and the unfortunate incident when a racing car Bentley could not even get to the finish line,
having descended from a distance. Bentley also remained true to himself, presenting consumers with another, more expensive model. The results are not long in coming. The company, once on the
verge of bankruptcy bought another manufacturer of ultra-expensive cars — the company Rolls-Royce Motors Ltd.
Bentley was asked to stay in the company, concluding with him a four-year contract, which he is still gone after. The history of Bentley Motors has since gone the other way.
Rolls-Royce management has decided not to participate in a car race, while maintaining, at the same time, the sports component of the Bentley. It was decided to do so: at the time, as the
Rolls-Royce cars are designed for consumers who want to ride in exclusive luxury, but not getting into the car alone, the Bentley positioned for the affluent motorists who did not need a personal
chauffeur.
It was created several gradations Bentley — «Red Label» (the main focus was on comfort), «Black Label» (emphasis — sports figures) and «Green Label» (cross).
But gradually the company Bentley Motors went into a shadow of its owner. Produced its model though attracted fans around the world, in fact is a kind of copies of Rolls-Royce, a little more
affordable, with better sports facilities. Cars for those who want to go as quickly as possible, but with the comfort, which is devoid of racing cars like Bugatti or Ferrari.
Bentley revival began in 1980, when Rolls-Royce Motors Ltd. acquired by Vikers.
At present day Bentley Motors — is part of the Volkswagen Group, of which it entered in 1998. In the same year he and Rolls-Royce moved to another German company joining the BMW Group.
For Bentley Motors Company began a new era, its automobiles not only regained their identity, but also returned to the racing tracks. In 2003 he was again defeated at Le Mans (until 1930 it was
as much as five per se).
The most famous was the model Bentley S-2, which once belonged to John Lennon. He acquired it for the sole purpose of advertising the new album The Beatles — «Yellow Submarine».

одним из своих братьев Бентли открывает фирму импортирующую спортивные французские автомобили DFP. В то время преуспеть в таком бизнесе можно было только побеждая в гонках. Практически каждая из нынешних известных марок получила известность в начале ХХ века за счет
спортивных побед, и именно фамилия победившего гонщика часто могла совпадать с названием машины.
В 1913 году, качественно усовершенствовав двигатель на французском автомобиле (впервые изготовив поршни из легких алюминиевых сплавов), Бентли
разгоняет свой 2-литровый DFP до скорости 145 км/ч и тем самым бъет национальный рекорд скорости.
Во время Первой мировой войны будущий конструктор поступает на службу в военно-воздушный департамент королевского морского флота, где начинает внедрять свои
алюминиевые поршни на авиационные моторы Rolls-Royce, и занимается проектированием моторов для самолетов с названиями
Bentley Rotary1 и Bentley Rotary2.
В 1919 году Уолтер основывает компанию Bentley Motors Ltd и представляет свое первое творение на лондонском автошоу. Двигатель на 70 л.с., объем
которого составлял 3 литра — был большим и мощным по меркам того времени. Собственно с этого времени и начинается официальная история автомобиля Bentley.
Бентли не был сторонником миниатюризации. Его дальнейшие модели делались все крупнее быстрее и дороже. В дальнейшем, в начале 30 годов, на
Bentley уже устанавливали мощные 8-литровые двигатели!
Главным приоритетом для Бентли были гонки, в которых он его команда делали ставку на выносливость.Его большие темно-зеленые машины, выступая под
британским флагом пять раз одержали победу на 24-часовых гонках в Ле-Мане.
Нельзя не упомянуть о команде, которая принесла Bentley столько побед. Профессиональных пилотов на то время просто небыло, так как гонки были
сугубо элитарным спортом, а Bentley Boys, знаменитые на все Британское Содружество, как раз и были молодыми аристократами. Так Тим Биркин был крупным текстильным магнатом, Берни
Рубин имел много земельных наделов в собственности и владел Австралийскими плантациями жемчуга, Вульф Барнато имел несколько алмазных приисков в Южной Африке, которые достались ему по наследству,
и получал с них большие прибыли (он собственно и финансировал разработки Уолтера Бентли). Всему настал конец когда пришла Великая Депрессия. Компания
Bentley Motors Ltd обанкротилась и в 1931 году была продана на аукционе. Ее приобрел некий анонимный паевой фонд за которым стояли, как выяснилось позднее, давнишние конкуренты
Bentley в лице Чарльза Роллса и Фредерика Ройса.
С этого момента наступила новая эпоха в истории автомобиля Bentley – о победах на гонках в ней не было сказано ни слова, однако легенда о самых
роскошных спортивных машинах в мире, которые собирают только вручную и с теми же стандартами качества, что и лимузины Rolls-Royce, продолжает существовать. Можно сказать это были
те самые, тяжелые многолитровые Rolls-Royce‘ы, только с более мощными двигателями, повышенной управляемостью и буквой «В” на эмблеме. Им не было равных в сочетании быстроты и
комфорта при переездах на большие расстояния.
Бытует мнение, что в банкротстве Rolls-Royce и Bentley в 90-х годах виновен Mercedes со своим раскрученным «шестисотым” S-класса. Однако, выгоду получили, компании BMW и
Volkswagen, которые дешево раскупили «фамильное серебро” англичан. Так, Баварцам отошел Rolls-Royce, а компания
из Вольфсбурга получила Bentley. Так или иначе — конца двух великих марок это не означает. Обретя разных владельцев, компании Rolls-Royce и
Bentley опять станут конкурентами практически как в давние времена. BMW пока интригует: про будущий ряд Rolls-Royce‘ов неизвестно практически
ничего. А вот Volkswagen сейчас представляет очень интересную модель Bentley Coupe GT глядя на которую можно с уверенностью сказать что легенда
Bentley продолжает жить.
